We accidentally spent the last few years traveling across George Washington’s life without even planning to. We kept hitting parks and towns tied to him, so we finally decided to complete the map and finish at Mount Vernon.

1. Birthplace (Popes Creek, VA)
The starting point. We visited the site where he was born in 1732. It’s a quiet look at where his life began before he was ever a General or President. 🗺️
2. Mount Washington (Pittsburgh, PA)
We stopped here and realized the strategic importance of this location. Washington identified this area early on during the French and Indian War because of its view of the rivers. 📍
3. Fort Necessity (Farmington, PA)
The site of his 1754 military surrender. It’s a field where he learned the hardest lessons of command while he was still very young. ⚔️
4. Williamsburg, VA
His political training ground. We walked the same streets where he served in the House of Burgesses and transitioned from a soldier to a legislator. 🏛️
5. Valley Forge, PA
The site of the 1777-1778 winter encampment. Visiting here gives you a clear look at what the Continental Army actually survived during the Revolution. ❄️
6. The Espy House (Bedford, PA)
We found this historic spot, which served as his headquarters during the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. It is the only time a sitting President led troops in the field. 🎖️
7. Mount Vernon, VA
The final stop. We finished the trail at his home and burial site on the Potomac. Seeing it in person puts everything else we visited into perspective. 🏡
